The latest offering from Volvo’s in-house performance brand, Polestar, ditches the turbocharged inline-six for a lightweight four-cylinder engine that’s both supercharged and turbocharged to deliver a healthy 362 HP and stout 347 LB-FT of TQ. That power is sent to all four wheels effectively enough to rocket the bright blue cars from 0-60 MPH in just 4.4 seconds.
For those of you paying attention, that’s two-tenths of a second quicker to 60 than the best time MotorAuthority was able to record with the outgoing six-cylinder.

Generating that extra power from the Volvo’s Drive-E engine involved much more than simply “turning up the boost”. Volvo’s Polestar team bolted on a larger turbocharger, installed new, high-strength connecting rods, more aggressive camshafts, a larger air intake, and a higher capacity fuel pump to meet the demands of this performance-first Volvo variant.
Earlier this week, MotorAuthority had the chance to put the latest Polestar Volvo models through their paces at Arizona Motorsports Park. It’s a great read, so head over to the original article to find out how the cars handled their day at the track and check out MA’s awesome photo gallery. Enjoy!
