Classic Iron: 1970 Volvo 142 Rally Car

With its rally style wheels, aggressive stance, and stunning red/gold/black paint scheme, there is no mistaking this car’s sporting purpose. The extensive modifications to the car do more than just provide a look, however- this 1970 Volvo 142 coupe is 100% race-ready. Even better: it’s for sale.

Don’t get too excited about the car’s “for sale” status, though. Unless you’re in Finland, that is, because that’s where the car is currently listed. Even so, just about any car that is currently registered for the FIA Historic Rally Series definitely worth a look- especially when that car also happens to be one of the best-looking Volvos ever built. So, let’s take a look!

This 1970 Volvo 142 coupe 2 door sedan is powered a beefed-up 4 cylinder engine producing more than 170 HP. That number is up nearly 60 HP over what the 142 originally came with! A stiffened, lightened chassis and lightweight wheels wrapped in Kuhmo Ecsta tires help keep the going where it’s pointed, and the seller sees willing to provide a bunch of spare parts if when the car gets a little too far sideways.
