There are few cars which could be called more unique, more special than the Volvo V70R. Even so, I think it’s fair to say that some V70Rs are more special than others — and this 2004 V70R that’s currently for sale at Greenwood Motorsports might just be one of those cars that’s extra special.
What makes this particular Volvo V70R extra special, then? I’m glad you asked!
First of all, this V70R is painted in flash green- arguably the wildest factory color ever sprayed onto a family-hauling wagon. Second, this R’s turbocharged five-cylinder engine has been breathed upon by Heico Sportiv- the Swedish tuning car experts- to deliver 60 HP more than the already super-quick “standard” V70R. And, finally, we come to the car’s provenance: it was owned by racing champion and K-Pax driver Randy Pobst.
So, yeah. You could definitely say that the car was done right if Randy drove it. And drive it he did- this V70R has more than 200,000 miles on the odometer. Or, to put it another way, more than 8 complete laps of the planet Earth … which is a nice break-in period for a Volvo, I think.
So, what do you think? Is this flash green, Heico-built, ex-Randy Pobst Volvo V70R worth the $8900 asking price? Check out the seller’s description, below, then let us know what you think in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
2004 Volvo V70R at Greenwood Motorsports
Here’s a rare opportunity to own a V70R, with a full and comprehensive service history, nearly flawless paint and a clean interior free from cracked seats. Normally the icing on the cake would be the tasteful mods, from the Racing Dynamics wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires to the lowering springs, oil and transmission cooler and custom dash mounted gauges. The exhaust is a one-off v-banded stainless system, and the hood vents were custom made as well. The transmission and oil coolers are tucked away behind the grill and under the hood, both with thermostatic control. The ECU has been tuned for about a 60hp boost in power.
What could be better than all that? This car was owned by Professional racing driver Randy Pobst, now the star of Motor Trend TV! Randy took great care of the car, treating it to regular service at a local Volvo specialist in GA. Randy is the third owner, and the owner prior to him did all the modifications. Having purchased the car in 2005 with only 24k miles, it’s been in GA ever since so it’s got no rust at all. There are no accidents on the Carfax and the paint shows as all original. The prior owner to Randy had hand controls installed, and there are some scratches on the driver’s door jamb from loading in and out of the wheelchair, but that’s the extent of anything other than some light scratches and chips from normal use.
The V70R has an incredible 5-Cylinder turbo, sounds like no other wagon out there and this one has a special ownership history! Oh, and the best color they ever put on a V70R!
